New-PSSession: The WinRM client cannot process the request

When trying to start a new online Powershell session, you might sometimes encounter the following error:

New-PSSession : [admin0e.online.lync.com] Connecting to remote server admin0e.online.lync.com failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cannot process the request. Basic authentication is currently disabled in the client configuration. Change the client configuration and try the request again.

This usually happens if basic authentication has been disabled in the Registry. Most organizations disable basic authentication via group policies.

To fix this, open up Registry Editor and navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WinRM\Client

Change AllowBasic to 1
